Down Time, But Not Really

So obviously, I've been taking time off from Luscious Handbags to focus on some other projects and just to focus on life too. Funny how life works out though. Even though I have been taking a break, it seems like recently there's been a crazy influx of special order requests for diaper bags.

Funny enough, I forgot to take a pic of the most recent diaper bag I made before passing it on to the new happy owner. But let me just say - it looked HAWT! I was really quite impressed with the way it turned out, and I am sure she was too.

As a result of that, another order for a diaper bag has come in, and I am in the middle of working on that project now. I love the use of funky fabrics and this client chose an amazing orange almost-jacquard type fabric to use for her diaper bag. I should be finished the bag by the end of next week.

Then yesterday, while talking to my massage therapist handbags came up in conversation. She also requested a diaper bag for one of her close friends. The coolest thing about this special order is that I have complete creative control. She told me a few things about what her friend would love, her style, and her favorite colors. I was free to choose the fabrics myself and just show her the end result. This was a bit of added stress for me - but honestly I LOVED it. I picked out some amazing fabric yesterday and will get started next week on this special order too.

Don't worry I will take pics of these last two and post them here when they're both completed.

I still love making handbags, don't get me wrong. In fact I made a super cute one for myself the other day. I guess that diaper bags seem just way more popular right now since it's like everyone is having babies.

Well, that's it from me for a while. I'll be busy with life, and still busy at the sewing machine too!

I have to start out by saying that I'm sorry my blog has been totally neglected. Life gets busy.

2009 is gearing up to be another busy (almost hectic) year and as glad as I am to have lots to do and feel really popular, it does sadden me that I won't be able to spend as much time as I would like on handbags, diaper bags, etc.

So, I am going to be taking a hiatus from Luscious Handbags. I should have said so sooner - but I was hoping things would slow down towards the end of 2008 and allow me to catch up. It is 2009 already and I obviously didn't get my wish. haha.

Luscious Handbags isn't going away forever though, so keep returning to my blog and my website often. If you want to be notified when we are back feel free to drop us a line.

Thank you to all for your support over the past couple years and we look forward to returning with fresh ideas, new products, and a renewed vision.

Spring Is In the Air

Just a few posts ago I was talking about how the year was over and we were soon starting 2008 and now its already March. I will be honest, it has just flown by. The snow is almost all melted here and pretty soon the flowers will be coming up.

It has been very busy for us as we took a brief hiatus from handbags for a couple weeks. The only reason for taking a break is that I simply needed one. Life gets busy sometimes and if your passion starts to make you tired, then it doesn't make you feel passionate anymore. Taking a break was necessary and much appreciated. I didn't totally neglect sewing mind you, as I needed to pad my wardrobe with some new skirts and tops.

Now with the snow melting the passion is returning and I can't wait to sit infront of my sewing machines and start producing more hot handbags for everyone. I wanted to share a recent experience with a new laptop bag pattern which I wasn't too satisfied with. I am going to take the pattern back to the drawing board and incorporate some of my own ideas to see if I can improve on the design enough to put it into full production. I'll need a clever name for the laptop bag if it joins the ranks of our other handbag lines.

Also, with spring comes the glorious wedding season. So far there is only one wedding we are attending this summer. That could change very soon as warmer weather prompts more proposals. The wedding season gives me an opportunity to experiment with a new wedding line of bags/satchels/clutches specifically for brides and bridesmaids. I will likely not add this to our regular line of handbags but it could be a special order item.

And on to the topic of diaper bags...I just want to say that when I started Luscious Handbags I had absolutely NO clue that diaper bags were going to be the 'it' item I made and sold the most of in 2007. It remains to be seen if 2008 will be equally as baby-crazed. So far, there are two friends of mine that are expecting this spring/summer. All the babies in my own family (nieces and nephews) have already arrived safely and I haven't heard of any other surprises or expectations so far. The year is still early - lots of time to have a December baby!

To end...I just want to issue a sort of apology about my website. I am sorry that it hasn't been updated as often as I'd like. I admit I am not all that technical when it comes to a site like this and my web designer is on maternity leave. (See what I mean - baby mania!) If you browse and don't see what you are looking for, drop me a line and I can help you further. I promise to have the site updated very soon - even if I have to get a 'For Dummies' book and do it myself!

Where did 2007 go??? With just a couple weeks left in the year the time has come to make some plans for 2008. What's coming to LusciousHandbags.com in 2008? Well I won't ruin the surprise just yet but lets start with an update on the other new additions to the product line I mentioned a few months ago.

Our Lifestyle and Athletic line is coming along nicely. A few more design modifications and a later deadline than we anticipated has pushed the release back a month or so. Expect the unveiling of our funky yoga mat bags and gym bags to come in early 2008 - and I mean early! Our toiletry bags are nearly ready to go with some fresh fabrics for the new year. I hope to have these ready to go at the same time.

From a business standpoint, LusciousHandbags.com is ending the year with the addition of some new equipment. We expect our handmade products to be even more fabulous. I want to take this time to thank all who have supported LusciousHandbags this year and appreciate your continued business.

New Products Available Soon!

We are adding a few new products to our handbag line. You can find some brief descriptions of these new styles on our website. Scroll down to the 'Coming Soon' for more info on these specific handbags.

In addition to these new products that we hope to introduce over the next few months, in a new Athletic and Lifestyle line. Out of necessity I have started making yoga/pilates mat bags for myself and some friends and have decided to add this to our product line. Look for these mat bags to be available by the end of November in a variety of luscious fabrics, of course!

Rounding out our new products is another feature in the Athletic and Lifestyle line - cosmetic/toilette bags. Again, due to my own necessities and desires I wanted to have a cute little bag I could grab and go to the tanning salon with as I don't leave my lotions and goggles there. This bag works perfectly! I expect to have funky cosmetic/toilette bags available by mid to late October.

Baby Mania = Diaper Bags galore

I have been keeping extremely busy creating custom design orders for multiple new mothers/mothers-to-be. It seems that in our area (and maybe other areas) it is turning out to be serious baby-mania. I am not complaining as making these diaper bags are probably one of the most fun projects ever and the end result is something I am so pleased with each time.

Our website shows one style of luscious.baby diaper bag and we have added two more styles to the line, but sorry we haven't had a chance to update the site just yet. I will post some of the pictures here. Remember, the diaper bags are a special order item so if you like what you see, just contact me and we can come up with a design unique to you.

I haven't come up with a great marketing name for each bag style in the luscious.baby line so if you have any suggestions please post them or email me. I will throw in a gift certificate towards a bag of your own for any who's suggestion I end up using! I need four different style names.

Bag 1 (also found displayed on our website)
This bag is a messenger style bag. Inside there are three large pockets. Reinforced bottom.

This bag is in a more traditional diaper bag style. Zippered closure, with three large elasticized inside pockets, two outer elasticized bottle pockets, and a coordinating change pad. The change pad folds up and fits inside the diaper bag. Reinforced bottom.

Similar to Bag 2, this traditional styled diaper bag features zippered closure, three large elasticized pockets inside and two outer elasticized bottle pockets. This bag does not include a change pad. Reinforced bottom.

Bag 4
This is a tote style baby bag. This is great for mothers with older babies/toddlers who may not require such a large diaper bag anymore. Stylish as ever this bag showcases a tie closure and two outer elasticized bottle pockets. Reinforced bottom.

Custom Order - great design

From time to time I have some customers who like to use their own fabric and have it made into a handbag. I do custom orders with their own fabric and like to show case them here.

Check out the handbag I just recently completed for a customer!

This isn't the best picture, but with the weather getting colder I am less willing to go outside and take a 'cool' pic. Anyways, the fabric that the customer requested was the tulips. It is a fine wale cord tulip design. The black is simply black twill. This was an easy pattern to put together. Completely reversible, this bag has pockets on both sides, inside and out. Drawstring closure with grommets. It is not in the normal Luscious line but I am considering adding it.

What are your opinions/comments on the bag design?

School's In and Fall is Here!

It's hard to believe that September is half over and school is back in session. Along with the back to school wardrobe don't forget to pick up a Luscious Handbag!

With Fall well on its way and the cooler weather settling in, it's time for the great fall fabrics to come out. We have started our fabric shopping already and can't wait to showcase some of our new designs in hot new fall fabrics. Keep an eye on our website for new images to appear soon!

With fall also comes the winding down of the Vernon Farmers' Market. Of course, harvest is still going strong for farmers but the cooler weather makes me want to hibernate so our last Friday night Farmers' Market was September 7th. Thank you to all for your excellent support at the market on the various Friday's that we were set up there. We look forward to seeing you next year, even more Fridays!

The Market is located at the south end of the Vernon WalMart parking lot from 4-8 pm every Friday. We look forward to seeing you!

I will post the September dates as I know more about our schedule. Vernon Friday Night Farmers' Market continues until October for the late harvest so we may consider staying on until then. It all depends on what the weather is like!
